About Eagle Shore

In January 1997, we bought a cottage on Sacandaga Lake near Northville NY. We call it "Eagle Shore" since a bald eagle feeds on our shore in the spring. When we first told a friend about the bird, he was very skeptical that we actually had a bald eagle on our shore. As the water rises in the spring, the area next to our front lawn floods and captures fish. The eagle finds these fish "easy pickens" and comes to eat most mornings in May. Our neighbor was lucky enough to catch a picture to offer as proof.

For those that are familiar with the lake, we are located on the eastern shore of the Northville channel. The location is ideal for swimming and boating in the summer, although we use the camp year round. A telephone remote-control has been set up so we can turn on the furnace in the winter and have the place heated up when we arrive. Another recent technology addition is a web cam looking out the front of the cottage. This allows Tom to view the weather to decide if it's worth taking the afternoon off from work for sailing or waterskiing. A weather station is also being installed to give more precise information on wind and temperature conditions.

We now have four boats: a motorboat (Regal 195) for skiing, fishing, and tubing, a sunfish, thanks to Tom's parents, a Hobie 16 (purchased from our neighbors Irv and Joyce), and a Dyer Dow dinghy that was recently converted to sailing. The Dow uses the same rigging that Tom had as a kid on his Dyer Dow "Skipper". Needless to say we love our new second home and try to take every chance to use it.
