REVIEW

Closing Reception:   Saturday Nov. 22  2-4 pm

Anne will be at the gallery on Saturdays

Anne Diggory's new work involves many changes of direction. The streams in her paintings literally change course in hair-pin turns. Her new worrking methods, layering painting, photography and digital printing, allow her to take the stages of a single painting in very different directions in separate woks of art. Diggory has always used a wide range of descriptive marks and textures. The introduction of photography extends that range and at the same time gives the viewer a slightly unsettling experience of shifting back and forth between clarity and mystery, with the painted marks sometimes giving more clatity than the "truth" of photography.

Also included in the exhibition are paintings and drawings of Lake George, where Diggory has been researching the painting locations of nineteenth century painter John Frederick Kensett. The research will be published for the Metropolitan Museum.

Spring Street Gallery

110 Spring Street

Saratoga Springs, NY

During the month of March the Spring Street Gallery in Saratoga Springs presents a two person show, "Healing after a Heart Attack: A Journey through Images." The show is a combination of works by a brother and sister, Steve Parker from Fairbanks, Alaska, and Anne Diggory, from Saratoga Springs, New York.

This exhibit presents Steve’s compelling story, in images and words, about dealing with a heart attack. He undertook three different artistic projects, each in response to a new crisis, each one helping him heal in some important way.  Complementing his work are paintings and mixed media pieces that Anne created in direct response to her brother’s story. Additionally, her experience working on Steve’s labyrinth project influenced the three large landscapes on display.

Steve's text and images can be seen at www.heartak.com

Our Warming World :

SPRING STREET GALLERY

110 Spring Street, Saratoga Springs, NY

Anne's piece is a digital collage of a detail of one of her paintings and graphs of global warming. It is a layered reference to the complex interaction of emotional impact, observation and analysis in both science and art. Fallen trees can be seen as both beautiful and terrible. They can be an indicator of inevitable change in the forest - part if the natural process. But multiplied in effect from global warming, such raising water levels can be catastrophic.

Encounters and Memories: Paintings and Drawings by:
       Anne Diggory and Rebecca Newman
   |

Thirty seven years ago, in 1969, Diggory and Newman entered with the first class of women at Yale. While living across from each other at Vanderbilt Hall, Anne started out intending to major in Mathematics and Rebecca was in Directed Studies with an intended major in Philosophy. Both soon discovered a new focus in the outstanding Art Department and they started a lasting friendship that involved sharing the joys and frustrations of making art. Diggory and Newman have continued to make art and exhibit on separate coasts. The Davenport exhibition will include works specifically related to their Yale experience. In the background of some of Diggory's paintings are images of works done at Yale. Newman's drawings use a tree in the Davenport courtyard as a jumping off point for explorations of ideas about Martin Buber's concept of visual encounters.

Horses, Saratoga Style 2002

No longer on exhibit. Purchased by Neil Golub.

On WMHT - A documentary of the city-wide project that includes footage of several artists including Anne Diggory at work on the horse and interviews with her. Available for purchase 584-4132

An exhibition of fiberglass horses all over Saratoga Springs, NY, included a Farmers' Market horse, "Seattle Slaw," by Anne Diggory. Sponsored by Jerry and Marcia MacDonald, it is covered with fruits, flowers and vegetables that are available at the market. The left side has the fall crop, the right side has spring and summer treats. Included are: a winner's wreathe of eggplants, an Adam's apple, ears of corn, onions for bunions, and a saddle of zucchini (everyone is always saddled with too much zucchini). Many of the images are based on paintings from the last 15 years. (Click to see more horse images.)
