All of our digital access numbers support V.90 (and K56Flex). Analog service cannot support V.90, so users of our analog service who upgrade to V.90 (or K56Flex) should switch to one of our digital access numbers.
V.90 was formally approved on September 16 by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union), the keeper of telecomunications standards, at its meeting in Geneva.
This brings to a close the "56k war." A major goal of the industry was to have this resolved in time for the Christmas "buying season."
On September 27, our V.90 was upgraded from beta to final release.
Users should be aware that some phone lines simply cannot support "56k" connections. Estimates of how many cannot support 56k vary from about 10% to as high as 30%.
Most modems that can connect with either V.90 or K56Flex do not report which protocol they are using. Sometimes you can tell from the connect speed.
