Domain Services

For business users (and other users, at our option) NetHeaven accounts
include these domain services for one domain. If you're at all uncertain
about what a domain is (hint: it's not a website), see what
a domain is - and what it's not. If websites are your real interest,
read about virtual servers.

Filing of registration applications
The actual filing of the registration is the least significant of the
domain services that go into "registering a domain". You could do this
yourself, which is almost as easy as providing us with the information
we need to do it for you. However, having us do it for you helps avoid
some pitfalls and keeps the other services we provide (such as establishing
DNS) in sync with filing the registration.
Email mapping
If you have a domain, all email addresses in that domain are yours,
but they have to go somewhere. We'll route them where you want them to
go, which can be a mailbox on NetHeaven or an email address on another
service.
Example: Fred Smith is user fred on NetHeaven, has registered
domain beerkeg.com, has an employee Bob who handles advertising and uses
AOL for mail, and has a son Bill who uses Fred's second mailbox beer.bill
to deal with complaints. Fred asks for mappings:
-
fred@beerkeg.com --> fred@netheaven.com
-
sales@beerkeg.com --> fred@netheaven.com
-
bob@beerkeg.com --> bob1234@aol.com
-
ads@beerkeg.com --> bob1234@aol.com
-
bill@beerkeg.com --> beer.bill@netheaven.com
-
complaints@beerkeg.com --> beer.bill@netheaven.com
-
{default}@beerkeg.com --> fred@netheaven.com
Subdomains
Some businesses prefer not to register their own domain. We will let
them use a subdomain of one of our domains webaddrs.com or netheaven.com.
For example, instead of registering beerkeg.com, Fred above could have
chosen either of these:
-
beerkeg.webaddrs.com
-
beerkeg.netheaven.com
We reserve the right not to allow use of subdomains that we consider
would be inappropriate. For example, we have a number of clients who do
Website development, and we would not let one of them choose websites.netheaven.com,
because that could easily be interpreted as favoritism toward, or even
a business relationship with, that one client.
